EMD commissioning at Newton

Focus just commissioned a large Electric Motor Dynamometer at Newton Electrical Services of Manila. This is a 300kW unit (peak power of about 800kW) unit used for testing large AC and DC industrial motors. Newton services all kinds of motors and generators, and can now perform more extensive QC testing after rebuilds including looking for brush arcing, bearing slip, vibrations, hot spots, and motor efficiency. This heavy duty dynamometer will also allow "burn in" testing of motors, and load simulation (either constant, or running variable load profiles). This will put Newton in the lead in terms of both quality and customer service. Many industries are looking to improve their efficiency, and reduce costs, and this dynamometer provides the definitive advantage in evaluating motor efficiency, allowing comparison of different brands, as well as new vs rewound motors under exactly the same conditions as they will be used in the field. Specifically Light Rail Traction motors can be tested up to full power allowing rail system operators to reduce costs, and improve down time significantly. The Newton crew took to the dynamometer right away, and in two days started writing their own automated test scripts and running fully automated load cycle testing. Nice work guys!.
