This low-cost Compact Chassis Dynamometer is based on a modified synchronous generator providing high torque load absorbing capability across a broad speed range all the way down to 0 RPM. Torque is measured directly by a precision strain-gauge load cell and shaft speed via a high-resolution optical pulse encoder.
Power is dissipated into a remote air-heater resistive load box, eliminating liquid plumbing infrastructure and reducing lab installation costs. An integrated idler roller prevents vehicle breakaway while allowing single-strap hold-down operation.
